FBR launches Firehawk™ autonomous refractory lining robot

Thursday, 12 February 2026 – Robotic technology company FBR Limited (ASX:FBR; OTCID:FBRKF) (‘FBR’ or ‘Company’) is pleased to launch its newest DST®-powered robot, Firehawk™.

Firehawk™ is an autonomous refractory lining robot developed for use in the relining of ladles in the steelmaking industry.

Ladle relining is one of the most challenging jobs in steelmaking, with workers enduring tough conditions, working at heights, confined spaces and repetitive heavy lifting. Each ladle must be relined every few days to ensure the structural integrity of the ladle and to prevent safety incidents, and there are tens of thousands of ladles in use in steel mills around the world.

Using FBR’s Dynamic Stabilisation Technology®, Firehawk™ delivers precision brick placement across its full 10-metre reach, automatically compensating for vibration and movement throughout the entire lining process. The robot handles the complete reline — scanning the ladle to map its unique geometry, compensating for wear and deformation, then placing insulating sand and refractory bricks.

Operators may select the ladle type and block configuration from pre-approved layouts, and Firehawk™ will sequence the full reline automatically. Firehawk™ will operate within a 10m x 10m footprint and handle ladles from 10-tonne up to 350-tonne capacity, completing entire relines in as little as a day while removing humans from the extreme, hazardous conditions.

US$3,990,000 (plus variable optional extras, site-specific installation, integration costs and support package) and is subject to factors such as customer specification, contract terms, and FBR’s continuous improvement program which may result in changes to specification or price without notice. Development of Firehawk™ is underway with the preliminary design completed, and FBR is in discussions with potential sales and distribution partners to assist in marketing, lead generation and sales of Firehawk™. FBR is accepting preorders for Firehawk™ and is engaged with steel producers around the world that have previously requested the development of a refractory lining robot. Commissioning of the first unit is currently anticipated to be completed in the 2027 calendar year.

FBR’s CEO, Mark Pivac commented:

“The FBR team are very excited to introduce another DST®-powered robot to our product suite in Firehawk™. While refractory lining has been a consistently requested application since as early as 2018, our strategic priority remained the maturation of the Hadrian® platform. Having now achieved commercial readiness with our flagship technology, we are positioned to apply our expertise to Firehawk™, a solution specifically engineered to meet the rigorous demands of the global steelmaking industry.

Nearly 12 months ago we presented a clear strategy to focus on utilising our extensive IP portfolio to create innovative robotic solutions and product streams, as we’ve demonstrated with Mantis™ which has already achieved its first sale. Firehawk™ takes one of the most dangerous and challenging jobs in the steelmaking industry and removes the risk to humans while increasing efficiency of the mill.

Similar to Mantis™, Firehawk™ is a product designed for use in an industry that already embraces automation and robotics and takes a sophisticated approach to maximising efficiency and minimising risk, both safety and economic.

Firehawk™ utilises similar design philosophy to elements of Mantis™ and Hadrian® and the same core technology of a stabilised long boom delivery system that underpins each of the other robotic products in the FBR product suite.

In line with our strategy, FBR will continue to utilise its substantial IP portfolio in developing innovative DST® enabled products and solutions. I look forward to providing further updates on Firehawkand the Company’s other workstreams in due course.”
