Retirement of Director

FBD Holdings plc ("FBD" or the "Group") today announces that Mr. Johan Thijs, independent non-executive Director, has retired from the Board and from the Nomination Committee.  Mr. Thijs, who is President of the Executive Committee and CEO of KBC Group, was appointed to the Board in May 2004 and has stepped down in advance of FBD's next AGM having held office for in excess of nine years.

Mr. Michael Berkery, Chairman, commented:

"Johan Thijs has been a very valuable contributor to the Board in the period since his appointment.  His knowledge and experience of the European general insurance industry was of great benefit to the Board and has left a lasting legacy.  I want to record my thanks to Johan on behalf of the Board for his input over the past nine years and to wish him continued success as he concentrates further on his executive role in KBC."
