Etherstack Signs Canadian Technology Deal

Etherstack plc's UK subsidiary, Etherstack London Ltd today announced it had entered a technology licensing deal with a Canadian manufacturer of dispatch consoles used in digital radio networks for the emergency services and utilities sectors.

Etherstack's technology will be used by the console manufacturer to allow the consoles to connect to digital radio networks conforming to an open standard known as the CSSI.

The deal involves a technology access fee, services revenue and an ongoing royalty stream to Etherstack.

The technology licensed from Etherstack is for an emerging digital radio standard known as APCO P25 Phase II. Phase II of the standard is more efficient than the widely deployed Phase I standard.

Anna Squires, Director, Protocols Division, said "We are seeing a strong increase in demand for our Phase II protocol technologies as the Phase I digital radio market matures and manufacturers start looking towards their next generation platforms".

Etherstack is the world's leading licensor of wireless protocol software and technologies for the Professional Mobile Radio industry. Open interfaces such as the ISSI and CSSI standard developed by the TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association) allow digital radio network operators to procure network equipment from multiple vendors and have this equipment interoperate with each other without adaptation.

Etherstack has previously licensed ISSI and CSSI technologies on royalty bearing arrangements to multiple manufacturers in industry, including Cisco Systems.

The Canadian project will be delivered this calendar year and further expands Etherstack's Canadian client base which includes several other radio equipment manufacturers, as well as multiple digital radio networks deployed using Etherstack's own digital radio network equipment for both public safety and utility communications networks.
