Ericsson Nikola Tesla contracts LTE delivery with Armenian Ucom

  • Ucom will deploy 4G/LTE to meet Armenia's rapid-growing data traffic
  • Ucom subscribers will enjoy better quality, faster speeds and a larger variety of applications
  • Ericsson Expert Analytics will enable Ucom to enhance customer experience

Ericsson Nikola Tesla and Armenian operator Ucom signed a frame contract for 4G/LTE network roll-out throughout Armenia, including the capital city of Yerevan. The agreement includes radio and core equipment as well as related services. The agreement also covers Ericsson Expert Analytics, a software suite which enables operators to predict customer satisfaction and automatically take closed-loop actions to improve it. With these product solutions, Ucom's network will meet growing end-user expectations. The value of the first phase of the contract is more than MHRK 41.

4G/LTE is playing an important role in the fast growth of mobile data access and traffic. According to the latest Ericsson Mobility Report, there are now one billion LTE subscriptions worldwide. The increased speed LTE networks and devices provide is facilitating mobile usage, as well as contributing to growing average monthly smartphone data usage.

Hayk Yesayan, Ucom CEO, says: "This 4G/LTE network deployment will improve network capacity and enhance speeds to allow our subscribers to enjoy a seamless, high-speed mobile broadband experience with faster browsing, downloads and new services. LTE is a key enabler for changes in the business and society. Armenia today offers one of the most exciting growth opportunities in wireless broadband services and we believe LTE will provide us with a network to offer a customer experience in line with the global experience."

As part of the contract, Ericsson will provide its most advanced multi-standard radio equipment from the latest Ericsson Radio System product family and best-in-class Antenna Integrated Radio (AIR) systems. The agreement also includes deployment of Ericsson Expert Analytics. This comprehensive software suite will provide Ucom real-time analytics insights

which can be applied to meet changing subscribers' demands and boost customer satisfaction.

"We are extremely satisfied because Ucom recognized our company for the realization of this strategic project. With the development of the network, based on the state-of-the-art Ericsson telecommunication platform, Ucom is able to offer its users the mobile data services of the highest quality in the Armenian market. This contract also represents a significant step forward in the business operation on our company in Armenia", emphasized Gordana Kovačević, President of Ericsson Nikola Tesla.

Starting from 2009 Ucom Telecommunications Company has built a modern fiber-optic network in Armenia, which enables to provide three different services, such as Internet, IP television and landline digital phone through single broadband connection. As of June 2015 the Company has more than 100 000 subscribers and 800 employees. Cooperating with international high level Companies, Ucom Telecommunications Company could hold its fixed position in the Armenian telecommunications market. In 2016 Ucom has acquired 100 percent shares of Orange Armenia and became a mobile operator.

Ericsson is present today in all high-traffic LTE markets, including the US, Japan and South Korea, and is ranked first for handling the most global LTE traffic. Forty percent of the world's mobile traffic is carried over Ericsson networks, which is twice as much mobile traffic as the closest competitor. Ericsson is number one in LTE market share within the world's top 100 cities. More than 230 LTE RAN and Evolved Packet Core networks have been delivered worldwide, of which 170 are live commercially.
