E.ON AG – Interim Report I/2003 Ad-hoc-announcement transmitted by DGAP. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– E.ON Significantly Increases Operating Performance and Improves Outlook for Full Year 2003 E.ON Group significantly improved its operating performance in the first quarter of 2003. Operative earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) rose by 56 percent to 1.9 billion euros(prior year: 1.2 billion euros). Internal operating profit climbed 33 percent to 1.5 billion euros(1.1 billion euros), already taking total financing costs into account. Practically 90 percent of the Group’s internal operating profit stems from its core energy business. E.ON anticipates a significant rise in operative earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) for the entire year. Due to the overall positive earnings development in the first quarter, E.ON now anticipates that last year’s record internal operating profit (after interests) will be surpassed slightly for the full year. However, the high rate of increase in the first quarter was consolidation-induced and therefore not to be expected for the whole year.
