Remarks

1 Taxation:
Six months ended 30 June,
2000 1999
HK$'000 HK$'000
Company and its subsidiaries
Hong Kong 37 43

Hong Kong taxation is calculated at the rate of 16% (1999:16%) on the
estimated assessable profit derived from Hong Kong during the period.

2 Loss per share:

The calculation of basic loss per share is based on the net loss
attributable to shareholders of HK$453,337,000 (1999: net loss of
HK$15,568,000) and the weighted average of 341,339,134 (1999: 296,526,964)
ordinary shares, being the weighted average number of shares in issue
during the period.

No diluted loss per share for the both periods ended 30 June 2000 and 1999
are shown because the potential ordinary shares could decrease the loss
per share and would be regarded as anti-dilutive.

3 Certain comparative figures have been reclassified to conform with
the current period's presentation.
