Elsight Limited (ASX: ELS), an ASX listed company that develops advanced communication technologies for real-time data, video, and audio transmission over cellular networks in mission-critical environments, announced today that the company has been contracted by French company, Alrena Technologies, to deliver Halo units to be incorporated in an ultra-portable and light version of its “Smart medi case” branded as the “Smart medi bag”.
The first wave of the pandemic hit major metropolitan cities such as NYC first, with a devastating amount of death. However, the pandemic’s second wave is migrating to rural America, France, Australia and elsewhere. These areas are marked by marginal cellular coverage, and long distances to the “nearest hospitals”.
Rural populations represent a huge and untapped market. For example, 13 million people in France, 60 million in the USA, 600 million in China, 35 million in Russia, 25 million in Brazil, and 7 million in Australia.
In rural France, in the areas outside the 5 largest metropolitans, there has been an acute shortage of medical doctors for years. To further complicate this, unlike most other countries, France does not have Paramedics while nurses are not trained or licensed to treat patients in trauma or emergency situations without the remote supervision of an MD.
With this background, Alrena created the “Smart medi bag”, a new lighter version of their “Smart medi case” solution tailored to the needs of independent nurses, EMS and ambulances with a first aimed deployment in France itself. Nurses can lease this “Smart medi bag” with dedicated funding by the French government as part of the national effort to assist in monitoring Covid-19 and non Covid-19 patients, reduce the volume of patients admitted to hospitals and save lives in real-time. Initially, the aim is to supply around 6,000 independent nurses with this “Smart medi bag” across the country.
To meet this demand, and to start the ramp up of their new production and manufacturing line, Alrena has placed an initial order for Halo units to the value of approx. US$300,000 to be delivered between September and December 2020, with payment in three tranches along the same timeline.
Richard Kleitzke, Founder and President of Alrena said, “The history between Alrena and Elsight goes back to the days of the ELS Multichannel device and the Alrena Smart medi case. Ever since, we at Alrena had no doubt that our products will be incorporated with the Elsight connectivity solutions. We created the “Smart medi bag”, to enable independent nurses all over France to provide health care remotely, dramatically decreasing both response time and the necessity of patients to travel to hospitals. After the French government included Alrena in the final list of companies that are strategically placed to combat COVID-19, France's Minister for Solidarity and Health, Mr. Olivier Véran renamed the product as "Connected Nurses”. With Halo we were able to improve connectivity and flexibility of the “Smart medi bag”, decrease 1.1kg from the total weight of the bag and extend the battery life, while removing the need for a fan for special Colling due to Halo’s extremely low heat signature. Our partnership with Airbus and Elsight has proved to be the enabler of our future innovations.”
The announcement of Alrena’s significant order is the latest development in an ongoing strategic partnership between the two companies, which was entered into in 2017.
