The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– ELMOS Q1: Increase in sales and profits 2003 confirmed ELMOS Semiconductor AG (FSE: ELG) increased total sales in the first quarter of the year by 14% to mEUR 29.2 as compared to last year’s given period (Q1/02: mEUR 25.6). Cost-cutting measures as well as an increased utilization of the fabs lead to a rise of the gross profit by 27% to mEUR 15.1 (Q1/02: mEUR 11.9). The gross margin achieved a value of 52% again. Research and development expenditure came to roughly mEUR 4.9 (Q1/02: mEUR 4.7) in the past quarter, equaling 17% of sales. Compared to last year’s first quarter, marketing and selling costs rose to mEUR 1.6 (Q1/02: mEUR 1.3), reflecting expenses for worldwide expansion. General administration costs proportionately increased to mEUR 3.2 (Q1/02: mEUR 2.8), coming to 11% of sales again. The income before interest and taxes (EBIT) grew by 78% compared to the last year, reaching mEUR 5.9 in the first quarter (Q1/02: mEUR 3.3). Accordingly, at mEUR 3.0 the quarterly net income almost doubled in comparison to the previous year (Q1/02: mEUR 1.6). As earnings per share (EPS), ELMOS states EUR 0.15 in the first quarter. The receipt of orders in the Group rose to mEUR 32.7 in the first quarter, a growth by 40% in comparison to last year’s given period (Q1/02: mEUR 23.3). The book-to-bill ratio for the Group was 1.12.
