Press release
SBTi approves Eiffage's short-term greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with the 1.5 °C trajectory in each of its business lines.
The SBTi (Science-based Targets Initiative) has approved Eiffage's short-term emissions reduction targets, which it considers consistent with meeting the targets of the Paris Agreement and the 1.5 °C trajectory.
Every Eiffage business line in France and beyond is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with a view to reducing the Group's emissions by:
- 46% for Scopes 1 and 2 by 2030 compared with the reference year 2019.
- 30% for upstream and downstream Scope 3 (direct emissions) by 2030 compared with the reference year 2019.
This SBTi approval is a key step in achieving the Group's greenhouse gas emissions targets, and concludes an auditing process to approve the Group's overall emissions benchmark and associated emissions reduction trajectory.
Eiffage has for many years been committed to reducing its emissions and since 2016, has followed a low-carbon strategy in all its business lines, based on:
- Reducing its internal footprint (Scopes 1 and 2) by working to reduce energy consumption across all sites and premises and by investing in less carbon-intensive equipment, machinery and vehicles.
- Creating low-carbon products and solutions making the difference by offering alternative solutions that incorporate low-carbon materials, renewable energy production, energy-efficient buildings, reuse and recycling, Eiffage is working with its entire value chain to decarbonise construction. This collaboration with its partners and suppliers contributes to reducing the Group's Scope 3 emissions.
Low-carbon action plans are in place for each business line, in accordance with the Group's transition plan. SBTi approval of Eiffage's short-term (2030) targets also represents a step toward establishing a longer-term trajectory to achieve the Group's commitment to net zero by 2050.
Through these short-term targets and the associated transition plan, Eiffage is contributing to French and European greenhouse gas emissions reduction commitments, and pre-empted the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) that requires businesses to publish sustainability-related information.
