Egide presents a large range of solutions for Optical Fiber Communications at the 37th OFC Show in Los Angeles

Egide, the supplier of high-end hermetic packages, answers to the numerous and diversified needs of the telecom market for landline as well as for submarine applications. The in-house mastery of the different technologies necessary for the manufacturing of these very high reliable products (ceramic HTCC, glass-to-metal and ceramic-to-metal sealing, plating, integration of optical components) allows Egide to meet the harshest technical specifications required in this domain.

The solutions exhibited by Egide for this show mainly concern:

• Packages for Lasers and Detectors: the transformation of the electrical signal into optical signal, as well as the opposite operation, requires hermetic packages; Egide meets the demand of the access, metropolitan and long distance networks, thanks to its range of TOSA/ROSA packages, EML-GPO packages and its new family of 40 and 100 Gbit/s Transmitter & Receiver packages.
• Packages for Optical Amplifiers: the optical amplification of the signal requires pump lasers for which Egide proposes 14 pins Butterfly packages or 8 pins mini-DIL packages.
• Packages for Optical Switches: Egide has quickly met the demand of the recent WSS market (Wavelength Selection Switch), which allows an optimized use of the bandwidth; after experiencing a great success with its products for100GHz spacing, Egide has just been qualified for its new product for 50 GHZ spacing.
• Packages for Modulators: in some applications, the laser is not modulated by the electrical signal and the modulation is performed in a separate package; Egide proposes various packages based on glass-to-metal sealing or using ceramic feedthroughs for the new, very high speed, applications.

Philippe Brégi, President & CEO of the group, states: "Even if the telecom market represents no more than 25% of our current sales, it is intended, according to the analysts, to a very strong growth and Egide remains one of the very few players capable to meet the requirements of the optical networks and thus, to take benefits from this expected growth".
