EEII AG publishes half-year results per 06-30-2016
EEII reports a net loss of 0.95 MCHF (H1 2015: net loss of 0.3 MCHF) for the first half of 2016. During the reporting period the fair value of EEII’s equity holdings decreased by 12.6% or CHF 0.655 and EEII’s net asset value (NAV) decreased by 18 % from CHF 3.48 to 2.86 per share.
The stagnating global investment environment, coupled with the challenging and volatile investment climate of the emerging market economies in Eastern Europe, continued to negatively affect EEII’s portfolio performance during the reporting period. Consequently during the first half of 2016, EEII experienced a further reduction in its investments. Overall during the first half of 2016, EEII’s net asset value declined by 18 % from CHF 3.48 to CHF 2.86 per share. In absolute terms, the Company reports a net loss of CHF 0.95 mln (H1 2015: net loss of CHF 0.34 mln).
The reported loss is primarily attributable to the negative share price development of one of the company’s main holdings, Ukrnafta. Ukrnafta’s share price decreased by almost 50%, or CHF 1.1 mln during the first half year of 2016. The large decrease in Ukrnafta’s share price could not be made up entirely by the positive developments of share price increases in other holdings, such as Gazprom and KAZ Minerals, which gained 16% and 17% respectively during the first half of 2016.
