DETAILS

Over the past two years in particular, Eden Innovations Limited (“Eden”) (ASX: EDE) has made gradual but significant progress towards opening global markets for its two most recent versions of EdenCrete®, which are high concentration, lower cost versions of the original EdenCrete®.

These new products are suitable for use in both standard and new concrete mixes, including mixes that use higher percentages of low cost, low carbon footprint, pozzolanic cementitious materials, including fly ash and/or blast furnace slag, waste by-products from coal fired power production and metal smelting, each with no additional greenhouse gas footprint.

First EdenCrete® Pz7 Sales to Holcim follow extensive trials on three continents

The initial progress when these new products were first marketed, which commenced in early 2020, was made in India, where trials were held with a number of companies, and subsequent sales were achieved. More recently Indonesia trials have been held and discussions are ongoing.

Holcim, a Swiss-based global cement, concrete and building materials company, commenced trialling the EdenCrete® Pz range of products in 2022 in three of its four major market sectors. These trials commenced in Europe (France) and extended to the United Kingdom, North America (USA, western Canada and eastern Canada, and Mexico), and South America (Ecuador). Trials in all these countries are continuing and new trials in several other countries are also being considered.

Holcim operates in over 80 countries producing an annual global revenue (in 2023) of 27 billion Swiss Francs (approximately AUD$ 44 billion), with:

  • the North American market representing 39% or approx. AUD$17 billion,

  • 34% from the European market,

  • 11% from the South American market, and

  • 16% from the Asian, Middle Eastern and African markets.

Holcim is heavily focused on de-carbonising its cement, concrete products and other building materials that it markets.

Following repeated positive results from these trials, separate initial orders have now been received ,from three Holcim plants, one in the USA and two in Ecuador, to supply in aggregate US$111,325 (approximately AUD$152,125) worth of EdenCrete® Pz7. All three plants will utilise bulk storage and dispensing systems for the EdenCrete® Pz7, to allow seamless use of the product in their daily operation

USA – Initial Sale

The initial order from the USA is to supply US$21,037 (approx. AUD$31,725) of EdenCrete® Pz7 to a Holcim plant in Denver. This is likely to occur within the next few weeks.

2

Ecuador – Initial Sales

Two initial orders were received from Ecuador to supply a total of US$79,600 (approx. AUD$120,400) of EdenCrete® Pz7, for use in Holcim Ecuador’s two new, state of the art, concrete plants. These orders will be supplied in the near future. In total Holcim Ecuador operates 18 plants in Ecuador.

United Kingdom, Canada and Mexico -Ongoing Trials

Trials at Holcim plants in the UK, Mexico, western Canada, and eastern Canada are continuing. Eden is hopeful that the results from their trials will confirm the positive initial trials that have been completed at these plants, and that they will result in opening these significant markets for EdenCrete® Pz7.

Conclusion

Eden has received initial orders for commercial quantities of EdenCrete® Pz7 following a successful, extensive trial programme by Holcim in three of its major market sectors, with the orders coming from three Holcim concrete plants in two of these markets, North America (USA) and South America (Ecuador).

Holcim is one of the most globally significant cement and concrete companies, and is heavily focussed on reducing the carbon footprint of its products, with its major market sectors.

Eden considers that the collective significance of the following achievements represents a truly major milestone in Eden’s planned expansion of the global market footprint of its EdenCrete® range of products:

  • The first commercial sales of EdenCrete® Pz7;

  • The successful Holcim trials over the past two years in three of its major market sectors that have been completed and have resulted in the first three orders of EdenCrete® Pz7 coming from Holcim plants in Ecuador and USA; and

  • Ongoing Holcim trials continuing in USA, western and eastern Canada, Mexico, Ecuador, France and the United Kingdom, with further trials in additional countries being considered.

EdenCrete® Products Background

Eden’s range of three EdenCrete[®] products are all 100% owned, proprietary carbonstrengthened concrete additives that enhance a wide range of performance characteristics of the concrete. These benefits may include some or many of the following benefits :

3

compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength, abrasion resistance, reduced permeability, increased modulus of elasticity, reduced shrinkage. Collectively these benefits together can deliver stronger, tougher, more durable and longer lasting concrete that has frequently been shown in a growing number of trials to result in longer service life and hence a lower life-cycle carbon footprint of the concrete .

EdenCrete[® ] , the original product, is generally used in concrete that incorporates a high percentage of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC or Portland cement). EdenCrete® has been repeatedly used in ready-mix concrete, pre-cast and pre-stressed concrete, shotcrete, pumped concrete and volumetric concrete.

One of the primary target markets for EdenCrete[®] is improving the performance of concrete used in the construction and maintenance of concrete roads, bridges, ports, airports, and other infrastructure, particularly where it is subject to heavy wear, freeze/thaw weather conditions, heavy snow falls, and/or high levels of added salt or de-icing chemicals.

Since 2015, EdenCrete[®] products have been sold in the USA and more recently also in Australia and a growing number of other countries. They have successfully and repeatedly delivered a wide range of benefits when incorporated into concrete that is used in many different applications, including low-rise, medium-rise and high-rise building construction, roads and bridges, ports/marine/coastal applications, bus stations, carparks, water pipes, hardstand areas, waste transfer stations, warehouses, shotcrete applications, stadiums, and pre-stressed and pre-cast concrete products.

EdenCrete[®] Pz and EdenCrete® Pz7 are mostly frequently (but not always) used in concrete mixes that incorporate higher percentages of pozzolans as an alternative cementitious material (including fly-ash and blast furnace slag which are each waste by-products from coal fired power stations and metal smelting respectively, thereby each being treated, as a waste by-product, as having a zero Greenhouse Gas footprint from its production process).

As a result, EdenCrete[®] Pz and EdenCrete® Pz7 have repeatedly shown they enable a material proportion of the total Portland cement in concrete mixes to be replaced by the same percentage of pozzolans (which is usually cheaper and has a far lower Greenhouse Gas footprint) without any loss in performance of the concrete, resulting in a cheaper, comparable concrete mix with a reduced Greenhouse Gas footprint.

The global market for cheaper, lower carbon concrete is already significant but continues to grow very rapidly. It is a primary target for the EdenCrete® range of products. With relatively few competitive products yet able to deliver all these outcomes, this is a very important target market, particularly for EdenCrete[®] Pz and EdenCrete[®] Pz7.
