Data Exchange Network Limited (ASX:DXN) (The Company) is pleased to announce that it has received its final Planning Permit from the City of Melbourne. With this permit issued, The Company can now proceed to install plant and equipment, complete the fit-out and commission the data centre.
Data Exchange pre-fabricates its data centre infrastructure at its Perth factory and while the planning application has been progressing, engineering, construction and certification of the modular technology has been underway, off-site in Western Australia. With the Planning Permit in place, delivery of this plant and equipment will begin immediately with Chillers slated for delivery within days, followed closely by the Cross Connect Modules, Data Modules, Power Modules, distribution boards and backup power generators.
The process to obtain approval for construction of a data centre can be rigorous due to the size and capacity of the plant and equipment required for such a large industrial facility. DXN-M1 is the first truly modular data centre in Australia. The Company spent a considerable amount of time and effort ensuring this unique style of construction met all regulatory standards and Data Exchange is pleased to have reached such a significant milestone.
DXN’s modular construction and Tier-III Ready status allows it to rapidly deploy and assemble its plant and equipment to form a complete Tier-III data centre once the Planning Permit has been received. Site works will begin immediately and when complete, all the plant and equipment will be on site, ready for assembly and final testing by the Uptime Institute, early in 2019.
Data Exchange Managing Director, Peter Christie said “Achieving Planning Permission to build Australia’s first modular data centre is a fantastic achievement by the team here at DXN, led by Justin Kellerman, our Chief Architect. Justin has worked tirelessly to ensure we made it through this phase of the project as rapidly as possible and we couldn’t be happier with the result”.
