DOWNERMOUCHEL AWARDED WEST ZONE ITS MAINTENANCE CONTRACT

Downer EDI Limited (Downer) announced today that Roads and Maritime Services has awarded the DownerMouchel joint venture an Intelligent Transport System Maintenance Contract for the Metro West Zone area.

The contract involves the planning, design and delivery of programs of maintenance and improvement of over 1400 traffic signals, 150 variable message signs, and over 1000 other ITS assets across the western areas of Sydney and regional areas of New South Wales.

DownerMouchel will mobilise immediately in preparation for the contract, which is scheduled to commence on 1 October 2014. The term of the contract is five years, with an option for extension to seven years.

The value of the contract is approximately $15 million per year.

DownerMouchel is a 50:50 joint venture between Downer and Mouchel, a UK-based international infrastructure and business services group. DownerMouchel also operates the Sydney West and North Zone SMC, three Integrated Service Arrangements for Main Roads Western Australia, and a Road Asset Management Contract for Transport and Main Roads in Queensland.

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said Downer was delighted to have been awarded the ITS Maintenance contract.

“Downer is a leader in road infrastructure services in Australia and New Zealand, maintaining more than 40,000 kilometres of roads across Australia and more than 32,000 kilometres across New Zealand. We are also extensively involved in ITS maintenance.” Mr Fenn said.

“This new ITS Maintenance Contract builds on the NSW Stewardship Maintenance model and represents the evolution of the road infrastructure market in Australia from pure road maintenance to intelligent network management. We look forward to working with Roads and Maritime Services to deliver efficient management solutions for the ITS assets in the Sydney West and regional NSW areas.”
