Downer awarded maintenance contract with Western Australia’s Public Transport Authority

Downer EDI Limited (Downer) announced today that its joint venture with Bombardier Transportation Australia (Bombardier) had been awarded a contract by Western Australia’s Public Transport Authority (PTA), valued at around $40 million, for maintenance services on an additional 22, three-car “B” Series electric trains.

Downer Bombardier already provides the maintenance and cleaning for both the “A” and “B” series commuter fleets. The 22 new “B” Series trains are currently being manufactured by Downer Bombardier and are scheduled to enter passenger service by 2016.

The contract is for five and a half years with an option for an extension of an additional seven and a half years. After it commences, Downer Bombardier will maintain a total of 68 “B” Series three-car trains for the PTA.

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said Downer Bombardier had a long standing relationship with the PTA.

“Downer Bombardier has provided maintenance and cleaning work for the WA PTA for 10 years,” Mr Fenn said.

“This announcement further builds on the relationship and will help to support the objective of continual improvement to fleet performance”.
