DOWNER AWARDED CONTRACT TO ROLLOUT THE NATIONAL BROADBAND NETWORK IN NORTHERN NEW SOUTH WALES

Downer EDI Limited (Downer) announced today it had been awarded a contract for the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) to homes and businesses in northern New South Wales.

Under the NBN Project, Downer will be responsible for construction of the optical fibre network from the main fibre nodes to the boxes outside the home or business that allows customers to connect to the NBN.

The contract is valued at up to $94 million over two years, with two one-year options to extend the agreement.

The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said: “Downer is very pleased to be supporting NBN Co’s expanding program to roll out its high speed broadband network across Australia. This contract in northern New South Wales follows the announcement in December 2012 that Downer had been awarded a contract valued at $66 million for design and construction of services to connect flats and units to the NBN in New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT.

“Downer has extensive experience, expertise and scale in the Telecommunications sector in Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the work we have won recently with NBN Co, Downer has an ongoing relationship with Foxtel to provide satellite and cable subscription television installation and maintenance services in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, and an agreement with Telstra for network design and construction services. In New Zealand, Downer is a major supplier to New Zealand’s three main telecommunications providers, Chorus, Vodafone and Telecom. Downer has a contract with Chorus to install ultrafast broadband, is working with Chorus and Vodafone on the Rural Broadband initiative and is also building its relationships with other providers.”
