Downer EDI announces appointment of Chief Executive Officer
Downer EDI Limited (Downer EDI) today announced the appointment of the highly experienced global industry executive Mr Geoff Knox as Chief Executive Officer. The appointment follows an extensive global search process.
Mr Knox will succeed Brent Waldron who was appointed on an interim basis at the beginning of August 2007. He will commence duties on 1 February 2008.
Prior to resigning to accept the appointment at Downer EDI, he was Global Executive Director, Hatchcos Holdings; Executive Chairman Hatch Associates Pty Ltd; and Global Managing Director, Hatch Infrastructure. Hatch provides process and detail engineering, technologies, business consulting and project and construction management services to the Mining & Metals, Energy and Infrastructure sectors. The firm is currently working on capital projects in over 80 countries with a combined capital value of approximately US$50 billion.
Mr Knox is the former President of BHP Engineering and Vice President of BHP Project Management and has also held senior roles with Baulderstone Hornibrook, Costain Australia and White Industries.

“The board was highly impressed by Geoff’s experience in managing businesses in which the critical success factors lie in the disciplines of relationship management, people management, contracting and major project management.
“The board acknowledges the outstanding contribution of Brent Waldron in his role as interim CEO. The company has been fortunate to retain the services of such a high calibre individual who has played a pivotal role in implementing major change to the organisation during a particularly challenging period in its history,” he said.
Mr Waldron will continue to drive the business until Mr Knox commences duties on 1 February.
Mr Knox, an Australian, is married with 2 children and resides in Sydney.
Update on business review
At the AGM in November the company provided an update on the status of the business review being undertaken with the assistance of UBS. While the review is now substantially complete and a number of key recommendations are being progressed, final decisions regarding the review will be announced shortly after Mr Knox commences duties.
