The Study is focused on the development of two mining operations: simple open pit mining at Whim Creek and a high productivity underground mine at Sulphur Springs feeding a centralised processing facility located on the existing Whim Creek mine site.
The processing facility is being scaled to handle the annual combined production rate of 1.3 – 1.5 Mtpa from the two mining centres for the annual metal production (in concentrates) of approximately 20,000 tonnes of copper, 40,000 tonnes of zinc and 700,000 ounces of silver over an initial mine life of 9 years.
The rapid growth in the Sulphur Springs underground mine ore reserves identified during the Study has necessitated reappraisal of the proposed Project development plan. Consequently, the Company has commenced evaluation of transferring the location of proposed processing hub to the Sulphur Springs site as a parallel part of the current Study.

The potential relocation of the processing hub would align the Project development with the Company’s largest mining reserve base and offers further growth potential for the Sulphur Springs ore reserve together with potential significant operating cost benefits (particularly ore haulage) and minimal impacts on anticipated capital costs.
Discussions with relevant authorities including DMP, EPA, DEC and DoW are continuing regarding environmental assessment processes and related technical issues. Stakeholder consultation is proceeding with a range of local government and other bodies in the Pilbara Region.
This addition to the scope of the Study, combined with ongoing metallurgical test work required to finalise concentrate specifications, mine plans and detailed engineering designs, has resulted in the completion date of the Study being extended to the end of the September quarter 2012.
