Lufthansa reports EUR 984m operating profit for the first nine months 2008
and expects around EUR 1,1bn for the full year.

In the first nine months of 2008 the Lufthansa Group increased revenue to
EUR 18.6bn (+13.6 per cent) and generated an operating profit of EUR 984m.
It is 9.3 per cent below previous year’s level due to record levels in fuel
costs which could not be fully compensated in the increasingly difficult
environment. Net profit for the period came to EUR 551m. Last year's figure
of EUR 1.6bn was marked by book gains from portfolio activities and an
one-off tax effect.
The Executive Board has adjusted the profit expectations to the economic
slow down and the ongoing uncertainties regarding the implications of the
financial market crisis. It now expects an operating profit of around EUR
1.1bn for the full year 2008.
