DataDot Technology Limited ABN 54 091 908 726
Securities Exchange Announcement
17 January 2013
DataTrace DNA to Market GeneWorks’ DNA Barcode Technology
The Directors of DataDot Technology Limited (ASX:DDT) are pleased to announce that wholly-owned subsidiary DataTrace DNA Pty. Ltd. has been granted the exclusive global marketing rights to the synthetic DNA barcode technology owned and developed by Australian biotech company Geneworks Pty Limited.
DataTrace DNA and GeneWorks will also enter into a joint development agreement to develop products that will combine DNA barcode technology and DataTrace’s detection luminescence capabilities.
The ceramic taggant technology of DataTrace DNA and organic DNA barcode technology of GeneWorks are complementary solutions that can be used either separately or in combination to cover virtually all forensic authentication requirements across all industry segments.
DDT Executive Chairman, Bruce Rathie, said: “To our existing ceramic taggant solution, which delivers proven asset authentication with the convenience of portable, instant, in-field technology, we will now add a virtually unlimited number of unique DNA barcodes that are forensically verifiable in any accredited laboratory in the world. The combination of these two Australian technologies will provide a more powerful anti-counterfeiting solution and a more compelling commercial proposition for industry than either technology operating alone. This enables us to offer a unique, multi-layer authentication system globally.”
Peter Guilhaus, Managing Director of GeneWorks, said: “The ability to identify individuals by their unique DNA fingerprint is accepted globally by legal and forensic authorities. In recent years there has been increasing interest in using the same DNA technology to authenticate industrial products. Our partnership with DataTrace provides us with immediate market access to the authentication and asset theft prevention industry by exploiting the existing customer base and project pipeline of DataDot Technology companies.”
