"NET - ZERO STANDARD"

Danieli è orgogliosa di aver ottenuto da SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) la convalida dei target net-zero, ovvero degli obiettivi di riduzione delle emissioni di gas ad effetto serra, posizionando il Gruppo tra le realtà leader nella low-carbon transition. Danieli, dunque, è tra le prime realtà aziendali ad aver raggiunto l'approvazione dei target net-zero al mondo ed una delle pochissime in Italia. Danieli sta dimostrando il proprio impegno per costruire un futuro sostenibile, definendo in modo scientifico la propria traiettoria di azione con obiettivi science-based.

Obiettivi a breve termine

Il Gruppo Danieli si impegna a ridurre del 55% le emissioni assolute di GHG di scopo 1 e 2 entro l'anno fiscale 2030 rispetto all'anno fiscale di riferimento 2017 ed, inoltre, si impegna a ridurre del 62% le emissioni di gas serra di scopo 3 entro l'anno fiscale 2030 rispetto all'anno fiscale di riferimento 2021.

Obiettivi a lungo termine

Il Gruppo Danieli si impegna a ridurre le emissioni assolute di GHG di scopo 1 e 2 del 93% entro l'anno fiscale 2050 rispetto all'anno fiscale di riferimento 2017 ed, inoltre, si impegna ulteriormente a ridurre le emissioni assolute di GHG di scopo 3 del 97% per ogni dollaro di valore aggiunto entro l'anno fiscale 2050 rispetto all'anno fiscale di riferimento 2021.

La Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) è un'organizzazione che incoraggia le società a imporsi degli obiettivi basati su fondamenti scientifici volti a favorire la transizione verso un'economia a bassa emissione di carbonio. Nello specifico, la Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) è una partnership di rilevanza globale tra Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), il Global Compact delle Nazioni Unite, il World Resources Institute (WRI) ed il WWF ed ha quale obiettivo il contenimento del riscaldamento globale utilizzando un target di riduzione delle emissioni basato su fondamenti scientifici. La sua missione è uno degli impegni della We Mean Business Coalition, un'organizzazione globale no profit che lavora con i più importanti e influenti operatori commerciali internazionali per combattere il cambiamento climatico.

SBTi ha verificato e confermato che i risultati della riduzione dei gas ad effetto serra (GHG) della Danieli sono in linea con il "Net-Zero Standard".

Recenti studi sui cambiamenti climatici "climate science" della IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) sottolineano che è ancora possibile limitare l'aumento delle temperature fino a 1.5C° rispetto ai livelli registrati nel periodo pre-industriale ma il punto di non ritorno è pericolosamente vicino. Le Nazioni Unite (UN – United Nations) definiscono la situazione come "codice rosso per l'umanità" e Danieli esorta i propri business partners e stakeholders ad allinearsi alla climate science della IPCC, impegnandosi ad impostare degli obiettivi di riduzione science-based per limitare fino a 1.5°C il surriscaldamento globale rispetto ai livelli pre-industriali e a perseguire i net-zero targets entro il 2050.

Conclusioni

La decarbonizzazione all'interno del processo di produzione dell'acciaio è un procedimento avviato a livello mondiale e anche la Danieli si è posta quale obiettivo quello di dare attivamente il proprio apporto, attraverso l'offerta di soluzioni tecnologiche sostenibili per la produzione di Green Steel con emissioni di CO2 bassissime o addirittura nulle e ciò lo si riscontra ad esempio negli impianti innovativi DRI-H2, Q-ONE, Mi.Da e QSP-D.U.E.. In conclusione, possiamo dunque affermare che uno degli obiettivi strategici della Danieli è proprio quello di offrire soluzioni in linea con la conversione ecologica del settore.

"NET - ZERO STANDARD"

Danieli is proud to have received from SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) an independent validation of its net-zero targets or, in other words, of the targets to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, thereby placing the Group among the leading companies in the low-carbon transition. Danieli, therefore, is one of the first companies in the world to have had its netzero targets approved and one of the very few companies in Italy to have done so. Danieli is proving its commitment to build a sustainable future, scientifically determining its path of action with science-based targets.

Near-term Targets

The Danieli Group is committed to a 55% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 absolute GHG emissions by the 2030 target year compared to the 2017 base year, and also undertakes to decrease Scope 3 GHG emissions by 62% by the 2030 target year compared to the 2021 base year.

Long-term Targets

The Danieli Group is committed to a 93% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 absolute GHG emissions by the 2050 target year compared to the 2017 base year, and additionally undertakes to decrease Scope 3 absolute GHG emissions by 97% for each dollar of added value by the 2050 target year compared to the 2021 base year.

The Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi) is an organization that encourages companies to set goals based on scientific grounds with a view to facilitating the transition to an economy with low carbon emissions. Specifically, the Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi) is a global partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the Global Compact of the United Nations, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the WWF, whose aim is to limit global warming by using emissions reduction targets based on scientific grounds. Its mission is one of the commitments of the We Mean Business Coalition, a non-profit global organization that works with the most important and influential international businesses in fighting climate change.

SBTi has verified and confirmed that Danieli's results in reducing greenhouse gas emissions are in line with the "Net-Zero Standard".

Recent climate science studies by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) show that it is still possible to limit the rise in temperature to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial figures, but the point of no return is dangerously close. The United Nations define the situation as a "code red for humanity" and Danieli is urging its business partners and stakeholders to fall in line with IPCC climate science, undertaking to set science-based reduction targets to limit global warming to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels and to aim for net-zero targets by 2050.

Conclusions

The decarbonization of the steelmaking process is taking place on a global scale, and Danieli has also set a goal of making an active contribution to this process by providing sustainable technological solutions for the production of Green Steel with very low or even zero CO2 emissions. This can be seen, for example, in the innovative plants DRI-H2, Q-ONE, Mi.Da and QSP-D.U.E.. In conclusion, therefore, we can state that one of Danieli's strategic goals is precisely that of offering solutions that are in line with the ecological conversion of the industry.
