Rome, 5 May 2025 - CY4GATE (CY4.MI), a national and European player in cyber security and cyber intelligence, has been awarded a European research project in the Defence sector funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF) for a total value of €1.1 million over 3 and a half years starting from 2026.
The project, called "CITADEL" (Cyber Infrastructure for Training in Advanced Defence Exercises and Learning), was awarded to an international consortium of which Cy4Gate is a member and aims to create a next-generation cooperative cyber range, to be created through the implementation of synergic study, design, prototyping, testing and validation packages on which each member of the consortium will work. The implementation of this project will allow the acquisition at European level of new and advanced capabilities that will enable the "cyber forces" to conduct more advanced training, exercises and preparation for operational missions.
The project, which will last 3 and a half years and has a total value of approximately €48 million for the consortium, involves numerous companies and research institutions from approximately twenty European countries.
Cy4Gate has been pursuing for years relevant Research and Innovation initiatives in international contexts and in synergy with other partners in a cross-fertilization ecosystem that enriches the company in terms of skills and capabilities, allowing it to confirm itself as one of the national and European points of reference on cyber security issues for the Defense market.
There were 62 Community Research and Development projects of the EDF fund assigned in 2025 for approximately 1 billion Euro, with the aim of supporting technological excellence on a wide portfolio of capabilities in Defence considered critical, including cyber defence. The projects were identified following calls for proposals defined on the basis of the thematic priorities agreed by the Member States within the framework of the common security and defence policy and after a long and complex selection process the winning consortia are identified.
Emanuele Galtieri, CEO and General Manager of CY4GATE commented: "We are particularly excited about this success that allows us to make an excellent contribution in the European context, bringing niche skills

and capabilities that will help create new capabilities in the dynamic world of cyber security for Defense. At the same time, we are aware that the project will give the company the opportunity to operate in an international context and "information-sharing" on valuable topics, which will bring enormous value to the benefit of our cyber digital twin, already appreciated and recognized on the markets as a valid platform to support cyber forces for broad-spectrum cyber defense operations".
