CULLEN APPOINTS EX-CSIRO GEOLOGIST IN PUSH FOR NEW EXPLORATION OPPORTUNITIES
Perth-based diversified minerals exploration company Cullen Resources Limited (ASX: CUL) has appointed experienced economic geologist and exploration geochemist. Dr Matthias Cornelius, as Chief Geologist, to take a lead role in the Company's expanding project assessment and acquisition program.
Dr Cornelius has held a number of senior positions in the exploration industry and in geoscience research during two decades as a professional geologist.
In his most recent appointment as Principal Research Scientist and Stream Leader for Regional Geochemistry at the CSIRO (Exploration and Mining, Perth), he was responsible for the production of a Laterite Geochemical Atlas for the Western Yilgarn Craton of WA, generating wide interest in the local exploration industry.
His professional experience also includes base metals exploration in Brazil and WA, precious metals in WA, and diamond exploration in the Yilgarn Craton.
Roles as Exploration Manager for a junior exploration company and as Senior Geologist for an international mining and exploration company, have provided Dr Cornelius with a relevant understanding of the commercial environment for junior explorers, adding to expertise he will apply to Cullen's growth plans.
Cullen Resources' Managing Director, Dr Chris Ringrose, said the Company was pleased to have secured someone with Dr Cornelius' breadth of experience, as the Company embarked on a new strategy for the assessment and acquisition of new projects.
"Matt Cornelius is an excellent and well regarded geologist and geochemist who will bring to Cullen, leading-edge know-how with significance to green and brownfields exploration," Dr Ringrose commented. "Matt will work primarily on prioritising targets from our existing project portfolio but will have carte blanche to lead the company into the most exciting and robust targets he can find," he added. "His primary strengths - an intimate understanding of the West Australian regolith environment; an ability to scrutinise and analyse regional and project geochemical databases; and a broad, sound knowledge of various mineralised systems – are invaluable to Cullen."
"We will initially focus on our own backyard but later search for opportunities around the world, particularly in areas of deep weathering that may have remained under-explored," Dr Ringrose said.
