Resignation of President and Chief Operating Officer and Appointment of Chief Operating Officers in the US and Australia
Coronado Global Resources Inc. (“ Coronado ” or the “ Company ”, ASX: CRN ) announces today that Mr James (Jim) I. Campbell has resigned as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the Company has restructured the COO role into two positions in line with its’ operating divisions.
Mr Jeff Bitzer, located in the US, has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer, US and Mr Douglas Thompson, located in Australia, has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer, Australia. Jim Campbell will remain with the Company for an interim period to facilitate a smooth transition.
Coronado’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Garold (Gerry) Spindler, said, “On behalf of the Board and senior management, I would like to thank Jim for his commitment and significant contribution to the Company.
“Jim is a founding member of the Company and has served as President and COO since the inception of Coronado Coal in 2011, holding fiscal responsibilities along with health, safety, operations, sales and marketing. With 40 years of experience in the coal industry he has contributed significant knowledge and experience in operations, executive management and leadership, as well as global metallurgical sales and marketing. Jim has been a valued member of the global executive team. He played an instrumental role in Coronado’s ASX listing in October 2018 and has played a key role in helping the Company navigate through the challenging market conditions over the last 12 months.
“We are pleased that Jim has agreed to assist us during this period of transition and we wish him well with his retirement,” Spindler said.
“Our two new COOs are extremely capable, with significant operating experience across all facets of our business. Jeff Bitzer has been with Coronado for 8 years and has played a leading role in optimising the performance of our US operations. I would also like to welcome Douglas Thompson to the Company. He brings a wealth of experience in mining and processing operations and is very familiar with Curragh from his time with Thiess.”
Jeff Bitzer joined Coronado in 2013 and was most recently the Vice President, US Operations responsible for the management of safety and environmental performance, costs, productivity, and capital spending for all US Operations. He has 40 years’ experience in operations management involving all aspects of coal mining. He has a technical background involving safety management, environmental compliance, cost control and analysis, production management, reserve evaluation, quality control, and process improvement. Prior to joining Coronado, Jeff held several positions including President and General Manager, Manager of Contract Operations and Director of Engineering for Arch Coal, Inc.; Vice President and General Manager for Magnum Coal Company; and Vice President of Operations for United Coal Company. Jeff is a licensed West Virginia professional engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from West Virginia University.

Mr Brett Holbrook, currently responsible for Coronado’s Buchanan mine, will replace Jeff as Vice President, US Operations. Brett joined Coronado in 2016 when the Buchanan mine was purchased from Consol Energy, having been employed by Consol for a number of years as Vice President of their Central Appalachia Operations.
Douglas Thompson joins Coronado from CIMIC Group where he held the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Thiess since 2017. In addition to these accountabilities, in the role of Mining and Mineral Processing Executive, Douglas was responsible for leading CIMIC Group’s operating company Sedgman. Douglas is a high-performing executive with over 25 years’ international experience in the mining sector. His strong industry reputation lies in driving operational excellence and developing greater in-house capability to deliver increased shareholder value and business growth. Prior to this, he held leadership roles with Gold Fields Limited in South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mining) with Honours and a National Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, and has completed an International Executive Development Program with the University of Cambridge and the University of Witwatersrand.
