COMPUTERSHARE WINS CORGI MANDATE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
Computershare Limited (ASX:CPU) Computershare Investor Services in the United Kingdom announced today that it has been appointed to work in partnership with CORGI on its new Complete Safety Initiative.
The Council for Registration of Gas Industries (CORGI) is the leading UK authority in gas safety and registration. The Council consists of 45 members representing a wide range of organisations and associations, all with an interest or involvement in matters relating to gas safety. Registration is a legal requirement for organisations and people who are working on gas installation and appliances.
The initiative will be launched on 1 April 2005 and will require all registered gas installers in Great Britain. Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man to notify CORGI when they have installed or exchanged a gas appliance in a residential dwelling. CORGI will then issue a Declaration of Safety to the homeowner directly, which will form part of the planned Home Information Pack (HIP) that will be required for selling houses in the future. CORGI will also offer a self-certification scheme that will comply with new requirements to notify the Local Building Control of relevant gas work undertaken, also scheduled for introduction in April 2005.
The four-year agreement will see Computershare administer the scheme on behalf of CORGI, which will include providing contact centre agents, developing the scheme's internet offering, processing payments, and printing and despatching the Declaration of Safety certificates and monthly statements.
Rob Chapman, Managing Director EMEA said, "We are delighted to be appointed to work in partnership with CORGI on this exciting new project, and the team at Computershare is very much looking forward to the challenges ahead. It is estimated that we will receive in excess of 870,000 phone calls, 250,000 web hits and produce and dispatch 1,250,000 certificates in the first year alone, this represents the scale and vibrancy of the gas industry."
Simon Ayers. General Manager, CORGI said, "The Complete Safety Initiative represents a significant step forward in gas safety and CORGI required a trusted partner to ensure large volumes of sensitive data will be processed efficiently. We quickly recognised in Computershare a company with a similar commitment to best practice that CORGI works to, and combined with their high levels of similar experience in other industries made the decision to work with them an easy one to take. We are now looking forward to delivering this exciting new initiative with Computershare's expertise and support.
It is expected that volume will grow year-on-year as the government considers extending the scheme to cover all gas servicing, maintenance and pipe work on residential and non-residential buildings.
Computershare are now working with CORGI in preparation for the launch of the Scheme in April 2005.
ENDS.
