Powerhouse Award Boosts Compumedics’ export drive
Melbourne Australia Wednesday, 3 June, 2009
Leading medical devices company, Compumedics Limited (ASX:CMP) today announced it has been awarded the Powerhouse Museum Award 2009 for design excellence and innovative use of technologies for Grael[TM] – the latest Sleep and Neurology recording system from Compumedics. The award adds further momentum to the Company’s export drive.
Compumedics’ Grael[TM] , is the world’s first High Definition PSG/EEG (polysomnography/ electroencephalography) recording system and will be an important component of the Company’s recently announced growth plans for the Company’s sleep diagnostics business in Europe. Compumedics recently announced the securing of a major sale in Germany following the Company’s decision to sell directly into Germany. The Grael[TM] EEG/PSG recording system will further underpin our growth ambitions in Europe by enabling the Company to substantially strengthen its distributor base across the region.
Further, Compumedics’ Grael[TM] will make its USA debut at the largest annual American sleep trade show, the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS) meeting this weekend in Seattle, Washington. Grael[TM] will further underpin Compumedics’ growth ambitions for its sleep-diagnostics business in the USA, a market valued at over USD111 million and which demands quality, technical innovation, and reliability so Compumedics is a natural vendor of choice.
The Powerhouse Museum, through its support of excellence in Australian design and innovation makes an annual selection of products from the finalists in the Australian International Design Awards, and then awards one superior winner. The recipients of the Powerhouse Museum Design Award have demonstrated excellence in design and innovative use of new technologies to provide significant benefits to users. The technologies must also show potential to become important in the lives of Australians, be significant to Australian industry or provide an opportunity for Australian design to be recognised in the global marketplace.
Powerhouse Museum Curator of Product Design, Erika Dicker said, ”The Grael[TM] received the Powerhouse Museum Design Award for its smart and streamlined design, which integrates innovation, sustainability, and user awareness. It is an Australian product that has the potential to make a significant impact to the quality of health and wellbeing for those suffering sleep disorders."
The Grael[TM] PSG sleep diagnostic device will be on display in the “Success and Innovation” gallery at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.
