Resignation of John Gowing

As foreshadowed in the Company's announcement dated 5 August 2004, Mr John Gowing tendered his resignation as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 24 August 2004.

The contribution made by the Gowing family, and in particular John Gowing over the past 17 years, cannot be quantified. Under John's carriage, Gowings Retail has modernised its offering, introduced its own highly successful overseas range, expanded its store base bevond its initial CBD location and listed the retail business on the ASX.

The past few years of difficult trading have been challenging for management and the Board and John Gowing's chairmanship throughout has helped maintain an even keel in challenging circumstances. John's active involvement in the business will be missed by all and the Board thanks him for all of his contributions. We are not severing all ties with John Gowing as he and the Gowing family will retain their direct and indirect investments and their ownership of our main trading site. As such we will continue to benefit from John's significant retail experience.
