Transaction in Own Shares

The Company announces that on 28 September 2022 it purchased, in accordance with the authority granted by shareholders at its 2022 Annual General Meeting held on 3 February 2022, a total of 136,357 of its ordinary shares of 11 1/20 pence each (the "Ordinary Shares") on the London Stock Exchange, through the Company's broker, Merrill Lynch International, as detailed below. The purchased Ordinary Shares will be held in treasury and are expected to be used to meet obligations arising from employee share schemes, or other allocations of Ordinary Shares, to employees or directors.

The purchases form part of the Company's share buyback programme announced on 11 May 2022.

Following the above purchases, the Company holds 24,564,743 Ordinary Shares in treasury and has 1,760,839,234 Ordinary Shares in issue. Therefore, the total number of voting rights in the Company is 1,760,839,234 Ordinary Shares and this figure may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, the Company under the Financial Conduct Authority's Disclosure Guidance and Transparency Rules.

In accordance with Article 5(1)(b) of Regulation (EU) No 596/2014 (the Market Abuse Regulation) (as in force in the UK and as amended by the Market Abuse (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019), the detailed breakdown of individual trades made by Merrill Lynch International on behalf of the Company as part of the share buyback programme is set out below.
