The Cairo Metro: new contract for Colas Rail on the New El-Marg project

A consortium comprising Colas Rail, Alstom and Alstom Egypte has been awarded a contract to extend Line One of the Cairo, Egypt metro in the northeast of the capital city between the El-Marg and New El-Marg stations, on behalf of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT).

The project involves the renovation and upgrading of existing infrastructure, including studies, design, supply, installation and commissioning of the systems.

Colas Rail will undertake the renovation of track, switches and crossings, the construction of new track, the replacement of overhead lines as well as the widening of platforms at the New El-Marg station, the power supply (track current), and the construction of all associated facilities.

Financed via a Franco-Egyptian agreement, the project is worth a total of 24.7 million euros, of which 12.7 million euros for Colas Rail.

Work is slated for completion during the second quarter of 2018.

Colas Rail has been working for the Cairo metro for over 30 years, and this new contract once again confirms its expertise in every aspect of the Railway business.
