Colas Ltd has been awarded, as part of a consortium, an 8-year Highways and Works contract involving the upgrading and maintenance of the road network in central London
Colas Ltd, a Britain-based subsidiary of the Colas Group, as part of a consortium along with Volker Highways and URS-Scott Wilson, has been selected for the central area of the London Highways Alliance Contract (LoHAC) by Transport for London (TfL).
The 8-year contract will start on April 1, 2013.
The contract comprises:
- Improvement and maintenance works including roads, pavements, kerbs, footways and paved areas, traffic signs, street lighting, road markings, fencing, road restraint systems, drainage, earthworks, horticulture, landscaping and ecology, bridges and other structures, street furniture,
- Highway services including winter maintenance, emergency call-outs, civil engineering work associated with traffic lights, horticulture, landscaping and ecology, street cleansing (street sweeping and litter picking), gully cleaning,
- Professional Services including asset safety and service inspections, inspections of bridges and other structures, design services for design and build scheme work including site investigations and surveys.
The total value of the base contract is estimated at ₤420 million (€520 million), of which Colas Ltd has a 40% share.
A commercial success of this scale clearly highlights Colas Ltd's expertise in long-term maintenance contracts. Indeed, Colas subsidiaries in the UK already manage the 25-year PFI (Private Finance Initiative) involving the upgrading and maintenance of the road network in Portsmouth, awarded in 2004, along with 3 MAC (Managing Agent Contractor) long-term management and maintenance contracts for the UK road and motorway network.
