Press release – 21 December 2017 - Montigny Le Bretonneux, France
Bertin Technologies acquires Winlight to strengthen its portfolio of optical instrumentation and systems
Winlight, a French company specialized in the design and manufacture of components and systems for high-performance optics, will consolidate Bertin's position in the Big Science industry
21 December 2017. Bertin Technologies, a CNIM, subsidiary, announced its acquisition of 100% of the capital of Winlight System Finance, previously owned by its founders Philippe Godefroy and Daniel Soler along with Sofipaca, a Crédit Agricole subsidiary. For this transaction, Winlight was advised by the Aristea consulting company. Winlight mainly operates in the Astronomy, Big Science, Space and Defense industries. It has world-class state-of-the art technical expertise in the design and manufacture of high-performance optical systems. Notably, the company has unique know-how in polishing technologies (molecular adhesion and precision optical polishing) and in assembly and testing.
Winlight is headquartered close to the Bertin Technologies site, a center of excellence for the development of instrumentation systems and products, in Aix-en-Provence.
This operation strengthens CNIM's and Bertin Technologies' product portfolio of high-performance mechanical and optical systems used in the Big Science industry (research reactors, synchrotrons and telescopes) and in major defense and space programs by customers in Europe, the USA and Asia.
Following the acquisition of Saphymo, the French leader of nuclear instrumentation, in 2015, and the acquisition of the Swedish company Exensor in July 2017, the acquisition of Winlight further consolidates the position of Bertin Technologies among the world leaders of high-technology sensors and instrumentation systems.
Philippe Demigné, Chairman of Bertin Technologies, expressed his satisfaction with this transaction. "We are delighted to be able to support Winlight in pursuing its development and generating new synergies between our teams and product portfolios. This acquisition strengthens our position and our industrial excellence in the big science, defense and space industries."

Philippe Godefroy and Daniel Soler welcomed this transaction. "Joining Bertin, a subsidiary of the CNIM group, gives us the opportunity to continue our growth in a context of high demand for big science instruments in particular. We are very enthusiastic at the idea of developing synergies between our two companies for the benefit of our customers, the group and our personnel."
Founded in 2001, Winlight achieved revenue of €6.1 million in 2016, has a substantial order book and employs 40 highly-qualified people.
