Remarks:

(1) The calculation of earnings per share is based on profit attributable
to shareholders of HK$1,593 million (1999: HK$1,514 million) and on the
weighted average number of 2,196,172,594 shares for the period (1999:
2,127,367,160 shares).

There is no dilution effect for the earnings per share.

(2) Operating profit represents profit from consolidated activites.

(3) Profit from consolidated activities of 2000 is before net finance
charges of HK$308 million (1999: HK$594 million).

(4) Certain comparative figures have been reclassified to conform with the
current presentation as required under Hong Kong SSAP1 (revised) "
Presentation of financial statements".
