VOLUNTARY ANNOUNCEMENT OF STUDENT ENROLLMENTS

This announcement is made by China Maple Leaf Educational Systems Limited (the “ Company ”, together with its subsidiaries and consolidated affiliated entities, the “ Group ”). The board of directors (the “ Board ”) of the Company wishes to inform the shareholders of the Company (the “ Shareholders ”) and potential investors that as of 15 October 2021, the total number of students enrolled in Maple Leaf schools (including overseas schools) was approximately 43,824, representing a decrease of 1.2% as compared to the corresponding period last year.

The Board is of the opinion that the marginal drop of student enrollment in the first semester of this academic year than that of the corresponding period last year was mainly due to:

  • (1) the “Regulations for the Implementation of the Private Education Promotion Law of the People’s Republic of China”* which become enforceable since 1 September 2021, provided that, private schools that offer compulsory education should enrol students in the area under the jurisdiction of the examination and approval authority, hence, domestic elementary school student enrolment has been impacted obviously; and

  • (2) the number of middle school and elementary school students who transferred to public schools has increased.

Maple Leaf is adjusting its student structure. Maple Leaf World School’s high school curriculum is widely recognised by universities and experts at home and abroad. The management expects that the number of high school students will increase year by year.

The above number of students is based on the Group’s internal statistics, which have not been reviewed or audited by external auditors of the Company. Such data may be different from those disclosed in the interim report and annual report published later.
