Centrica appoints non-executive director

Centrica plc is pleased to announce that Scott Wheway is to be appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the Company, effective from 1 May 2016. Scott will become a member of Centrica's Nominations, Remuneration and Safety, Health, Environment, Security and Ethics Committees.

Rick Haythornthwaite, Chairman of Centrica said: “It is with great pleasure that I welcome Scott as a Non-Executive Director. He is a very well-respected FTSE board member who offers a mix of deep retail and consumer expertise which will be of significant benefit to the Board in the development of our customer-facing agenda.”

Scott brings considerable experience and understanding gained in both retail and insurance industries, together with a deep knowledge of operating within highly regulated businesses.

In accordance with obligations under Listing Rule 9.6.13R, Scott holds or has held the following directorships of a publicly quoted company in the previous five years:

• Aviva plc
• Santander UK plc

There is no other information required to be disclosed under Listing Rule 9.6.13R. Scott has an interest in 10,187 ordinary shares of 614/81pence of Centrica plc.

Scott Wheway worked in retail for 27 years both in the UK and internationally, holding senior executive positions at Tesco, Alliance Boots and Best Buy Europe. Scott is currently a non-executive director of Aviva PLC and is chairman of their Governance Committee and a member of the Nomination and Risk Committees. He will retire from the board of Aviva plc on 31 December 2016 after just over nine years but will remain as chairman of Aviva Insurance Limited. In addition, he is senior independent director and chairman of the Remuneration Committee of Santander UK PLC, part of Banco Santander, S.A., having been appointed as a non-executive director in 2013.
