GULF CONFIRMS HIGH GRADE PHOSPHATE DISCOVERY AT BUSUMBU

Gulf Industrials Limited (Gulf) (ASX: GLF) are pleased to announce the full results from the drilling of 6 diamond drill holes for phosphate exploration at the Busumbu prospect – only partial results were presented in the ASX release of 21 June 2012. Best intercepts include:

  • 35.4m @ 25.8% P2O5, hole ND03 from 4.7m

  • 16.6m @ 19.5% P2O5, hole ND13 from 17.5m

  • 26.9m @ 19.2% P2O5, hole ND13 from 35.1m

  • 29.2m @ 25.1% P2O5, hole ND43 from 7.0m

  • 12.5m @ 23.9% P2O5, hole ND55 from 24.0m

  • 59.2m @ 18.2% P2O5, hole ND57 from 5.2m

A full table of assay results is included in Appendix 1, Table 2.

This drilling combined with the recent trench and road cutting sampling and mapping (see Figure 1) has helped develop the understanding of the phosphate mineralisation at Busumbu. The holes were drilled obliquely across the steeply dipping mineralisation, therefore the sample intervals do not represent true widths. Gulf estimates the potential dimensions of the prospect to be in excess of 3km by 400m. Drilling confirms high grade mineralisation to a depth of over 60m with assays grades of up to 30.5% P2O5. A weathered zone recorded up to 40m deep may have positive implications for future mining, and it is anticipated that the next drill program will better define the grade distributions and mineralisation styles with the aim of estimating a resource to be reported in accordance with the JORC code.

The phosphate is found within a carbonatite ring dyke, which forms part of the largely unexplored Bukusu alkaline‐ring complex and occurs adjacent to Gulf's high grade Namekara vermiculite deposit in the south of the ring complex. Bukusu forms part of a chain of volcanic structures trending south from Mount Elgon towards Tororo, of which it is the largest, covering an area in excess of 60km[2] . Apatite, the main phosphate bearing mineral identified by XRD in selected samples is probably concentrated into sub‐vertical sheets or veins within the carbonatite. Lateritic duricrust covers part of the deposit, recorded to a maximum depth of 8m.

The trenching that took place and the sampling of the road cutting allowed access to the sub‐cropping saprolite carbonatite which has helped with Gulf’s structural interpretation of the deposit. The trench was dug for a water pipeline for the local community and was not specifically dug for geological

purposes, hence why it does not fully cross the mapped outline of the carbonatite, whereas the road cutting joined the two roads that run either side of the ridge. The results gained from these exercises can only be considered indicative as they were obtained from the in‐house bench XRF machine (Innov‐X 5000 mobile XRF), which has limitations on the lighter elements that can be detected, it should also be noted that in‐house XRF assay results presented in this release are quoted as percentage of elemental phosphorus, whereas external assays are presented as the compound phosphate (P2O5). A full table of indicative assays is included in Appendix 2. The XRF machine has been used extensively for regional soil samples and results gained can be used as an indication of concentrations of elements present within the samples and results presented in this release fall within the expected values gained from assays from external accredited laboratories (as used for the drilling assays). Certified Reference Material is used as calibration of the unit along with a “blank” sample of quartz every 10 samples that are assayed. However without external accreditation, the results can only be considered indicative.
