In the same period last year, group sales were EUR 131.4 million. Although EBITDA was EUR 1.4 million in the first half of 2002, it declined to EUR -0.8 million in the second half. EBIT has declined to EUR -1.8 million from EUR 0.2 million in the first half of the previous year. The group loss amounts to EUR 1.1 million compared with EUR 0.3 million in the reference period for 2002. The group equity ratio improved at the end of June to 52.7 percent whereas it was 45.4 percent at 30 June 2002. CANCOM realised group sales of EUR 49.2 million in the first quarter of 2003 (second quarter 2002: EUR 63.7 million). EBIT is at EUR -1.7 million (second quarter 2002: EUR 0.2 million). The decline in sales during the second quarter was anticipated and is predominantly attributable to investor reticence associated with the pending launch of the new generation Apple PowerMac G5 at the end of June. Since then, orders and advance enquiries at CANCOM have picked up again. For example, orders were at their highest level in July of EUR 21.2 million following an order level of EUR 15.2 million in June. Against this background, CANCOM is expecting an improvement in sales and results during the second half of 2003, which will largely compensate the loss incurred to date. CANCOM anticipates that the positive development will continue in 2004 and that the company’s profit situation will markedly improve.
