PRESS RELEASE

Cambi wins its first contract in Morocco

Asker, Norway, 28 April 2022

Cambi has signed a contract to supply the first thermal hydrolysis process (THP) plant in Morocco for a wastewater treatment facility currently under construction in the port city of Safi.

The project is being developed by the OCP Group, the world leader in the phosphate fertiliser market and a global player in plant nutrition, which will use the treated effluent for industrial process water.

"We look forward to working on this important project in Safi, our first one in Morocco and Africa to process sewage sludge. The contract illustrates how thermal hydrolysis may support water-stressed municipalities to become more efficient and resilient, in synergy with the right ecosystem of technologies", remarked Cambi Group CEO Eirik Fadnes.

OCP Group's sustainability policies have played an essential role in technology selection for the Safi facility, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint significantly. As in all Cambi projects, the THP plant will increase renewable biogas production and improve biosolids quality.

JESA Building and Infrastructure SA is Cambi's contractual partner to deliver a container-sized THP system, steam boiler, sludge silo, feed pumps, and digester coolers, all scheduled for commissioning in 2023.
