Cambi has been awarded a turnkey contract in Copenhagen

Cambi has been designated the winner of a public tender for a turnkey thermal hydrolysis project for BIOFOS at the Damhusåen wastewater treatment plant in Copenhagen.

Used to treat the secondary sludge before anaerobic digestion, the thermal hydrolysis plant will increase the efficiency of the existing digesters, eliminating the need to build new ones. In addition, it will improve the site’s overall energy balance by increasing biogas production and improving dewatering performance, which lowers the energy used for drying.

Damhusåen can treat sewage from 350,000 people. It is the second-largest of three facilities owned and operated by BIOFOS, Denmark’s largest wastewater treatment company. The thermal hydrolysis project contributes to the company’s objectives to maximise resource recovery and become carbon neutral.

Following standard public procurement procedures, the final award is subject to a notice period that expires on 27 June 2022.

The turnkey thermal hydrolysis plant will be Cambi’s third in Denmark, expected to start operations in 2024. The contract value is more than NOK 100 million excluding services options.
