Item 9. Regulation FD Disclosure.

On December 8, 2003, Brown Shoe Company, Inc. issued a press release announcing that a jury awarded a $1 million verdict against one of its subsidiaries by a Colorado State Court jury in Denver for damages associated with environmental impacts on a neighborhood near a former company plant. A copy of the Press Release is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1 and incorporated herein by reference.
