Intra Energy Corporation Limited ("IEC" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that Tancoal Energy Limited (IEC 70% and National Development Corporation of Tanzania 30%) recorded 73,482 tonnes of coal sold for December 2018 compared to 47,617 tonnes sold in December 2017.
Tancoal achieved a record for production in December 2018 of 68,199 tonnes, December 2017 was 53,673 tonnes. The rain did not impact production in December as much as in previous years. Prodution capacity is being increased with one more excavator starting to work at the mine in January 2019 and an additional excavator is being mobilised. Tancoal’s export market is approximately 25% of its current sales and there has been continued interest from potential new export customers. The company cotinues to fully support the Tanzanian Government efforts to increase industrialisation in Tanzania
There has been no further developments since the last update in the Caspian court case (refer ASX announcement on 11 September 2018) which was postponed to 20 February 2019 as the Courts are on statutory leave. Tancoal continued to engage with the Ministry of Mining during December to resolve the issue of Tancoal’s customers being charged royalty on their costs to transport the coal to their place of business (refer ASX announcement on 21 August 2018). IEC will continue to keep the market informed.
IEC Chairman, Graeme Robertson, commented "Despite the rainy season it is pleasing to see record production achieved at Tancoal, assisted by new operating equipment. Sales are also maintaining momentum with new customers engaging from other East African nations, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda as well as solid industrial growth in Tanzania. We have entered the New Year in our strongest-ever position and I would like to express the Board’s appreciation to the Tancoal Team for their effort. Best Wishes for the New Year.”
