MEDIA RELEASE

ATOMIC INCREASES COAL EXPLORATION AREA NGAKA BASIN, TANZANIA

Atomic Resources Limited (“ATQ”) is pleased to announce that Tancoal Energy Limited (“Tancoal”) (the special purpose joint venture vehicle between the National Development Corporation of Tanzania (“NDC”) has secured the concession rights to two major new exploration Blocks, Mkapa and Mbuyuru, covering the northern extension of the Ngaka Coalfield in western Tanzania. Atomic recently announced a combined maiden JORC compliant resource of 179 million tonnes of thermal coal (see ASX announcement dated 10 February 2009) , based on drilling on the Mbalawala Block.

Atomics’ Managing Director David Holden said “The new concessions doubled the size of the exploration territory in the Ngaka Coalfield, increasing the resource potential for Atomic and giving Atomic a dominant position in the Tanzanian coal industry. It also strengthens our position at the centre of Tanzania’s coal industry and our relationship with our joint venture partner, the National Development Corporation of Tanzania”.

Drilling conducted by the Colonial Development Corporation in the 1950’s on the Mbuyuru and Mkapa blocks identified numerous thermal coal seams, suitable for use in coal-fired power generation. Atomic intends to conduct a drilling program on these blocks to verify the extent and quality of these seams in mid 2009.

The Tanzanian Government recently announced its intention to build a number of new 400MW thermal coal power stations by 2011 which will form the basis of the nations domestic power supply. Tanzanian Minister for Industry, Trade and Marketing, Dr. Mary Nagu, recently told the Tanzanian Guardian newspaper ( Thursday Feb, 19 2009 ) that the discovery of a substantial thermal coal resource at Ngaka “had come at the right time when the country’s power demands were on the increase”.

Mr Holden said that “Tanzania is growing rapidly and requires substantial, cheap and reliable sources of energy to fuel its economic development. Atomics’ substantial thermal coal fields in western Tanzania are ideally situated to provide feed stock for coal-fired power stations already being planned for Tanzania, and we are at the forefront of this fast-growing new industry.
