The FTSE 100 Index fell by2.8%. Global stock markets were weak during the month, partly driven byconcerns about GDP growth prospects, especially in Continental Europe, partlyby conflict in the Middle East and Ukraine and partly by some weak results. In the UK, there were profit warnings from a number of well known companiesincluding Tesco, Tate & Lyle, Balfour Beatty, De La Rue and Aveva. It wasprobably not surprising that markets gave up the gains made in August.Turning to our portfolio, we saw modest outperformance in the long onlyportfolio but a small loss in the CFD portfolio, with losses on long CFDsexceeding gains on short CFDs. Stock selection was positive with the bestcontributions coming from our holdings in Gemfields, Optimal Payments andHutchison China Meditech, although none made a major contribution. Detractingfrom this was our holding in Polar Capital, where shares were weak given thedip in world stockmarkets, although there was no company specific newsflow ofnote.Sector allocation had little impact on relative performance during September.Activity within the portfolio was limited during the month.14 October 2014ENDSLatest information is available by typing www.blackrock.co.uk/thrg on theinternet, "BLRKINDEX" on Reuters, "BLRK" on Bloomberg or "8800" on Topic 3 (ICVterminal).
