Acquisition of Ern Smith Timber & Hardware – Hume, ACT

Big River Industries Ltd (ASX: BRI) advises that it is has agreed to acquire the assets and trading business of Ern Smith Timber & Hardware Pty Ltd, located at Hume in the ACT. The purchase is subject to certain pre conditions being met.

This continues the expansion of Big River’s branch network into the major population centres of Australia, to directly supply the Trade segment of the building and construction industry. This local Canberra presence will offer enhanced service and product range for existing Big River clients, while bringing a whole new range of customers into the Big River Group.

Ern Smith Timber & Hardware has a long and proud trading history in the broader Canberra market, having operated for some 50 years. Jim Bindon, Big River CEO said: “This well regarded local business will become an important part of the Big River network, and the site is very well equipped to supply a broadened range of products into all construction segments of the ACT market, a key component of the Big River strategy”.

Sales revenue of Ern Smith Timber & Hardware is currently in the order of $8m per annum, and solid growth can be expected from the widened focus of the Big River Group.

While not material, the investment is earnings per share accretive and will include a mixture of cash and shares to help align interests.

Big River’s Annual General Meeting is on 21st November 2017.
