लिंग्निसिद्धझालेल्या अहवालानुसार मधुमेहाचे $-\omega$ -(डायबेटिस मिलिटस) जगात ८३ कोटी रुग्ण -आहेत. प्रत्यक्ष मधुमेह प्रतिबंधक औषधे आणि ंशश्रुषा घेणाऱ्यांचे प्रमाण भारतात ७.९ कोटी आहे तर ैर ३.३ कोटी रुग्ण मधुमेहाची औषधेच घेत नसल्याचे क्र—आंदळून आले आहे. म्हणजेच एकट्या भारतात ∃२०२२ मध्ये मधुमेहींची एकुण संख्या ही २१.२ ेकोटी आहे. जगातील एकूण मधुमेहींच्या तुलनेत हे ः न्प्रमाण २६ टक्के इतके आहे, त्यामुळे भारत ही -मधुमेहाची राजधानी असे म्हटले जाते यात नवल -नाही. मधुमेही रुग्णांची संख्या चीनमध्ये १४.८ -कोटी, अमेरिका ४.२ कोटी, पाकिस्तान ३.६ कोटी ंआणि ब्राझील २.२ कोटी अशी आहे. जागतिक ∞ ≣आरोग्य संघटनेच्या मते अल्प व मध्यम उत्पन्न ...................................... े॒आहे, मधुमेह नियंत्रित न ठेवल्यास त्यातून अनेक ेरोग आणि आजार निर्माण होऊ शकतात. उदा. न्हदयविकार, मेंदुत रक्तस्राव (ब्रेन स्ट्रोक), ठं-–्अर्धांगवायू, मूर्त्रापंड विकार, डोळ्यातील रेटिनाच्या _रक्तवाहिन्यांना इजा झाल्यामुळे निर्माण होणारे :दृष्टिदोष, चेता संस्थेशी संबंधित विकार, डायबेटिक → ≣न्यूरोपथी, प्रतिकारक्षमतेत घट, संसगेदोष, गॅंगरीन ेअशा अनेक व्यार्थीचे उगमस्थान मधुमेह 13 --असल्यामुळे मधुमेहाचे नियंत्रण आवश्यक ठरते. - यासाठी नियमित रक्त तपासणी आणि

मधुमेहांशी संबंधित इतर चाचण्या करणे, ن - औषधांचे नियमित सेवन करणे, नियंत्रित आहार ≐आणि नियमित व्यायाम अशा उपाययोजना करणे ∃गरजेचे ठरते. गेल्या ३०-४० वर्षात संक्रमक किंवा ंसंसर्गजन्य रोग जसे कॉलरा, टायफाइड, टीबी, डेंग्यु ∃इत्यादी आजारांवर प्रभावी उपचार भारतात केली

जातात. त्यामुळे अशा संक्रमक रोगामुळे मृत्युमुखी पडणाऱ्यांची संख्या नियंत्रणात आलेली आहे, परंतु असंक्रमक रोग जसे मधुमेह, हृदयविकार, रक्तदाव यांच्यामळे मत्यमखी पडणाऱ्यांच्या प्रमाणात वाढ झालेली आहे. 'ग्लोबल बर्डन ऑफ डिसीज' यांच्या आकडेवारीनसार भारतात एक लाख व्यक्तींमागे जवळपास वीस व्यक्ती या मधुमेहाशी संबंधित आजारामुळे मृत्युमुखी पडतात. मधुमेहावर जगभर मोठ्या प्रमाणात संशोधन होत असले तरी औषधोपचाराने किंवा शस्त्रक्रिया करून मधुमेह संपूर्णपणे नष्ट करण्यास अद्याप यश मिळालेले नाही. आहारातील पथ्य, व्यायाम, औषधोपचार आणि नियमित चाचण्या करणे हाच सध्या तरी मधुमेह नियंत्रणात ठेवण्याचा सर्वमान्य मार्ग आहे. मधुमेह या आजाराचे स्वरूप हे विविधांगी असल्यामुळे स्वाभाविकच मधुमेह आणि इतर सर्व रोग नियंत्रणात आणण्यासाठी जी आरोग्य विषयक संसाधने उदाहरणार्थ, मधुमेहांची शुश्रूषा, हॉस्पिटल, औषधे (गोळ्या व इंजेक्शन), प्रयोगशाळेत कराव्या लागणाऱ्या चाचण्या (पॅथॉलॉजी), ग्लुकोमीटर, रक्त शकरा तपासणीसाठी लागणाऱ्या प्रयोग पट्ट्या, साखरेचे

त्यासंबंधीची जागरूकता आणि प्रतिबंधात्मक उपचार हे आरोग्य संपन्नतेच्या वाटेवरील आणि भारतातील मधुमेहाच्या बाजारपेठेचा आकार कमी होण्याच्या दृष्टीनेही टाकलेले महत्त्वाचे पाऊल ठरेल.

प्रमाण मोजण्यासाठी लागणारी अत्याधनिक डिजिटल साधने (कंटिन्युअस ग्लुकोज मॉनिटरिंग, सीजीएस) याची भारतात प्रचंड मोठी बाजारपेठ तयार झालेली आहे आणि त्यात सातत्याने वाढ होत आहे. भारतातील मधुमेह प्रतिबंधक औषधांची बाजारपेठ १७ हजार कोटी रुपये इतकी आहे. २०३२ पर्यंत त्यात एक लाख कोटी रुपयांपर्यंत वाढ होईल असा अंदाज आहे. देशांतर्गत औषध उत्पादनातील मधुमेह आणि हृदयविकारावरील औषधांचा वाटा जवळपास एक पंचमांश आहे.

मधुमेहींच्या पहिल्या प्रकारात अशा रुग्णांचा समावेश होतो की ज्यांना इन्सुलिनवर अवलंबून राहावे लागते तर दुसऱ्या प्रकारात मधुमेहाँना इन्सुलिनवर अवलंबून राहावे लागत नसले तरी विशेष परिस्थितीत त्यांनाही इन्सुलिनची आवश्यकता भासते. २०२४ मध्ये भारतातील इन्सुलिनची बाजारपेठ पाच हजार कोटी रुपये इतकी होती आणि यात सातत्याने वाढ होत आहे. त्याचप्रमाणे रक्तशर्करा मोजण्यासाठी ग्लुकोमीटर आणि रक्त चाचणी पड़्या यांचीही बाजारपेठ वाढत आहे. मधुमेहाचा आर्थिक परिणाम मधुमेही रुग्ण आणि देशाच्या अर्थव्यवस्था या दोन्होवर दिसून येतो. मधुमेह हा खर्चिक आजार आहे. कारण मधुमेह आणि त्यातून उद्भवणाच्या व्याधी यामुळे मधमेहावरील उपचार खर्चात वाढ होत जाते. बहुसंख्य मधुमेही रुग्णांना स्वतःच्या उत्पन्नातून हा खर्च करावा लागतो. अलीकडच्या काळात आयष्यमान योजना तसेच सरकारी आणि खाजगी विमा कंपन्यांकडून आरोग्य विमा काढला जात असला तरी अद्यापही देशातील फार मोठा वर्ग

आरोग्य विम्यापासून वंचित आहे. 'द नॅशनल फार्मास्युटिकल प्राइसिंग अर्थारिटी' (एन.पी.पी.ए.) औषधांच्या किंमती नियंत्रणात ठेवण्याचे काम करते. अलीकडेच रक्तशर्करा कमी करणाऱ्या मेटफार्मिन या औषधाची किंमत निर्धारित करून दिली आहे. रुग्णाचा मधुमेह नियंत्रित करण्याबरोबरच इतरही आजारांची गंतागंत निर्माण होत असल्यामुळे मधुमेहाच्या शुश्रुषेवरील खर्चात वाढ होत जाते. या खर्चात औषधे, चाचण्या. स्क्रीनिंग, डॉक्टरांचे सेवाशुल्क ,हॉस्पिटलमध्ये भरती झाल्यास होणारा खर्च यांचा समावेश होतो. अपंगता, अपमृत्यू, आजारपण यामुळे उत्पन्न, बचत, उत्पादकता या सर्व बाबींवर अनिष्ट परिणाम होतात. त्यामुळे निरोगी आणि स्वास्थ्यपूर्ण जीवन असणारे नागरिक हे देशाच्या प्रगतीसाठी महत्त्वाचे असतात. भारत हा सर्वाधिक तरुणांचा देश मानला जातो, परंतु अलीकडच्या काळातील अनेक सर्वेक्षणामध्ये असे दिसून आले आहे की,

अनुवांशिकता आणि चयापचय दोष याशिवाय व्यायामाचा अभाव, जीवनशैलीतील बदल, अपरी झोप जंक फडचे सेवन. बैठे काम. स्थलता इत्यादी मळे तरुणांमध्ये देखील मधुमेहाचा प्रादर्भाव होत आहे. मधुमेहाच्या औषधोपचारापासून भारतातील मोठी जनसंख्या अद्यापही वंचित असल्याने 'नॅशनल हेल्थ मिशन' च्या अंतर्गत 'असंक्रमक रोगप्रतिबंध व नियंत्रण कार्यक्रम' भारत सरकारमार्फत राबविला जात आहे. या मध्ये मधुमेह,
