The underlying gross profit dollars increased by 6.4% over FY2015 with a gross profit margin of 63.9%. The strong gross profit margin was achieved as a result of new product releases, price management, stock management and favourable foreign exchange position at the start of FY2016. Through effective management of expenses, Beacon Lighting was able to deliver productivity gains and reduce operating expenses by 0.9% of sales when compared to FY2015.
Through a combination of sales and gross profit dollar growth, along with expense productivity gains, Beacon Lighting has been able to increase the underlying Net Profit After Tax (NPAT) result by 5.1% to $17.8 million.
Beacon Lighting has continued to reinvest in the business through new stores, the purchase of franchised stores and the introduction of the new Light Source Solutions GE globe distribution business. The Group has invested in additional stock and debtors to support business growth, which is partially funded by borrowings, whilst still maintaining a conservative Balance Sheet. A fully franked dividend of 2.3 cents per share was paid for H1 FY2016 with the Directors now also declaring a fully franked dividend of 2.4 cents per share for H2 FY2016. This brings the annual fully franked dividend for FY2016 to 4.7 cents per share, an increase of 11.9% on FY2015.
