Mr Johnstone was formerly Vice-President of Operations and Chief Operating Officer at Equinox Minerals Limited, prior to the C$7.6b acquisition by Barrick Gold Corporation. Commenting on the appointment of Mr Johnstone, Mining Group Chairman, Mr Winton Willesee said that the Mining Group Board was delighted that Cobb Johnstone had agreed to join the Board.
“Cobb’s experience strengthens the Board at an exciting time for Mining Group. The Company has been progressing the exploration and evaluation of its Comval copper-gold project in the Philippines and has recently identified several new targets, following the successful initial drill results at the exciting Bayag Bayag prospect. Mr Johnstone has a strong track record in creating significant shareholder wealth, with a history of successful construction and operation of mines in offshore jurisdictions. His extensive operational experience will complement the Board’s existing skill set as we continue to grow the business,” added Mr Willesee.
As part consideration for his appointment, and subject to shareholder approval, Mr Johnstone will be issued 500,000 unlisted options, exercisable at 45 cents and expiring on 15 July 2014.
Further to the above mentioned appointment, Ms Shannon Coates has resigned as Non-Executive Director, effective 24 May 2012. Ms Coates will continue to provide company secretarial services to the Company.
