South Island hit by severe storms – killed 1 million fish

WHAT- DAMAGE ON FARMS A15 AND A23

Severe storms hit Faroe Isands

• Severe storms hit Faroe Islands – and lasted four days from 28.02 – 02.03.2020
• The weather conditions in the A15 and A23 were not settled before 05.03.2020
• A23 Hvalba and A15 Froðba were severly hit by the storm

Problem

A15

• Continuous ground swell over 5 days killed the fish
• Site used by to farm salmon since 2005 without similar problems

A23

• Some equipment overstressed
• The fish in nets with no damage seems to be fine after the storms
• Going forward equipment can be improved to avoid similar accidents

SCOPE OF DAMAGE

- 1 MILLION FISH LOST

Two sites damaged in Suðuroy

• Farming site A23 Hvalba, 2 nets damaged
• Farming site A15 Froðba, 10 nets damaged
• Lost total of 1 million pcs á 2.1 kg

Insurance

The fish is insured at cost value

Affect on total harvest 2020

5 – 6,000 tonnes lost of expected harvest 2020
