Australian Unity Limited mutual capital instruments – Commencement of Trading

Australian Unity Limited mutual capital instruments (Australian Unity MCIs) will begin trading on the ASX today. Australian Unity MCIs will trade under the ASX code ‘AYUPA’.

Australian Unity MCIs will be quoted on the ASX as a debt-security and will be subject to the Listing Rules set out in Listing Rule 1.10 and the additional Listing Rules identified in Australian Unity’s announcement to the market dated 24 December 2020.

Mutual capital instruments are a specific type of security that were developed to provide mutual entities, like Australian Unity, with a means to raise permanent capital without giving up their status as a mutual entity. The creation of mutual capital instruments as a security under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) addressed the difficulties that mutuals faced with raising new capital without demutualising.
