The Chairman, the Chief Executive Officer, and the Members of the Board of Directors of the company under the name "Athens International Airport S.A." (hereinafter the "Company" or "AIA"), united in their sadness, announce the sudden passing of Robert Goebbels, Independent Non-Executive Member of the Company's Board of Directors.
Mr. Goebbels, a professional journalist, was elected five times to the Parliament of Luxembourg and three times to the European Parliament. From 1984 to 1999, he served as a member of the Luxembourg Government, initially as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development. On behalf of Luxembourg, in his capacity as Member of Luxembourg Government, he signed the Schengen Agreement in 1985. For ten years, he held the position of Minister of Economy, also responsible for Energy and Transport. In June 2018, Mr. Goebbels was appointed as an independent member of the Board of Directors of Athens International Airport, jointly proposed by the Greek State and AviAlliance GmbH. Following the Company's listing on the Athens Exchange, he was elected as an Independent Non-Executive Board Member, while also serving as Chairman of the Remuneration and Nomination Committee and as a member of the Audit Committee and the Personnel Committee.
His contribution to Athens International Airport was substantial and invaluable, distinguished by integrity, professionalism and dedication to the principles of corporate governance. The members of the Board of Directors extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and to those close to him.
Furthermore, the Company's Board of Directors informs the investment community that it has initiated the relevant procedures for the replacement of the late member of the Board.
