Associated British Foods plc (the 'Company') is pleased to announce today that Ruth Cairnie has been appointed as a non-executive director of the Company with effect from 1 May 2014. 

Ruth Cairnie was formerly Executive Vice President Strategy & Planning at Royal Dutch Shell Plc.  This role followed a number of senior international roles within Shell, including Vice President of their Global Commercial Fuels business and serving on the boards of Shell Pakistan Ltd and joint venture companies in Germany and Thailand.  Ms Cairnie is currently a non-executive director of Keller Group plc.

The Board very much looks forward to the valuable contribution that Ruth Cairnie will make to the Company.

Aside from Ms Cairnie's current directorship of Keller Group plc, a publicly quoted company in the UK, the Company confirms that there are no further details to disclose under paragraphs 9.6.13 R (1) of the Listing Rules in respect of this new director.
